it's strange to think it could have easily been someone he never spoken to before ]

I don't expect that makes it much easier to see, however.

[close or not, if they'd met, there's always some sort of connection there, regardless of how small it is or whether it's very positive at all.]

I don't believe it was necessary to show us all such a thing, rather than simply informing us.
