[that gets him to stop short, eyes widening slightly. there's a lot that comes to mind, immediately-- what do you mean you saw it, did you do nothing-- but he quickly reminds himself that taka's not a combatant. there were weapons involved in at least part of this, and maybe he just had the good sense not to become a fifth victim.
... I wasn't fast enough to get there in time. And they were far enough that I couldn't get a good view on who it was, especially with trees in the way. But one of them was carrying the other to the pond, and the person suddenly started struggling. They fought, and then they both just... fell into the pond together.
By the time I reached it to try to pull them out, it was... kind of weird. I couldn't see the bodies. I dunno if I was too late to interfere at that point, or what.
You won't, Shishimaru-kun. You have not messed up to begin with.
[taka doesn't seem as much like the contact type as senri, so he doesn't quite reach out.]
...there will only be so much we are able to do. It's unlikely we can stop it all completely, and it will be painful when we cannot-- but I have faith we will at least be able to keep it from becoming any worse.

[he offers taka a slight smile, hopefully reassuring.]
I will be all right.
no subject
[ there's a pause, like he's trying to figure out how to continue. ]
You're switching to Merriment, right?
no subject
[not that he's surprised-- honestly, he was prepared to tell taka if only because they seem close enough that senri might share it anyway.]
Yes, I am.
no subject
So am I. My power's All Nighter.
no subject
[because of course he is.]
...I'm hoping that I might be able to stop this from happening again, at least to the extent that it did this week.
no subject
[ he shoves his hands in his pockets. ]
I saw two of the victims drown.

but.... still. still.
what he finally manages to say in response is:]
...I'm sorry, Shishimaru-kun.
[...]
Would you mind telling me what happened?

[his voice is quiet, and- yeah, he is definitely glad he didn't allow the kneejerk response to happen.]
There wasn't anything you could have done, unfortunate as that is. But- perhaps we can change that in the future.
no subject
but after getting scolded by both merriment and senri, he has learned to keep his mouth shut about that. ]
Mm. Yeah, it'll probably be easier with two of us.
no subject
[a brief pause, before:]
Please, rely on me in this. I will do what I can for you, just as I intend to for everyone else.
no subject
[ senri was insistent though. ]
But I don't want to mess up again.

no subject
... yeah. We should probably try to meet up sometime next week to figure out a game plan, once we know how the location will change.
no subject
[scouting is always important, they should at least be familiar with any new areas first.]
no subject
Mmhm.
... thanks.
